After Srila Prabhupāda’s death in 1937, the Gaudiya Math became entangled by internal dissent and fragmented. Some members of the movement were concerned about the succession of the leadership, while others felt that the Math was no longer adhering to the teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. As a result, the Math split into several different factions, each of which claimed to be the true heir to Sri Chaitanya’s legacy.
