The city of Bhavnagar in the Indian state of Gujarat derives its name from Bhavsinhji Gohil, the founder of the Bhavnagar State. Bhavsinhji, a member of the Gohil Rajput clan, established the city in 1723 and named it after himself. Under his rule, Bhavnagar flourished as a prominent trading center and later became a princely state during the British Raj.
