Frist, a Republican Party member, served in the United States Senate representing Tennessee from 1995 to 2007. He also held leadership positions in the Senate, including as the majority leader from 2003 to 2007. Prior to his Senate service, Frist was a heart surgeon and a founder of the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), one of the largest healthcare providers in the United States.
