Joe Fagan succeeded Bob Paisley as Liverpool manager in 1974. He had previously been assistant manager to Paisley since 1965. Fagan led Liverpool to the league title in his first season in charge, and also won the European Cup Winners' Cup. He resigned as manager in 1983, and was replaced by Kenny Dalglish.
