Lajos Portisch was a Hungarian chess player who competed in eleven consecutive Chess Olympiads from 1964 to 1976. He won the gold medal in the individual event at the 1972 Chess Olympiad. Gelfand, a Ukrainian-Israeli chess grandmaster, equaled Portisch's record by competing in eleven consecutive Chess Olympiads from 1996 to 2008. He won the silver medal in the individual event at the 2004 Chess Olympiad.
