Metsu played for seven clubs during his career. He began with Valenciennes in 1978, then moved to Lille in 1981. In 1984, he joined Monaco, where he stayed for three seasons. He then played for Nice from 1987 to 1990, before returning to Valenciennes for a second spell. In 1992, he joined Lens, where he remained until his retirement in 1994.
