Annadurai served as the Chief Minister of Madras State for 2 years, from 1967 to 1969. He was the leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, which won the state elections in 1967. During his time as Chief Minister, Annadurai introduced a number of reforms, including land reforms and the abolition of the zamindari system. He also oversaw the construction of a number of new roads and schools.
