C. Rajagopalachari was born in Thorapalli village in Hosur taluk, Tamil Nadu, India. He was a prominent Indian independence activist and politician who served as the first Governor General of independent India from 1947 to 1948. He was also the first Indian to be awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor.
