What did C. Rajagopalachari propose that later came to be known as the C. R. formula?

  • Division of India

  • Partition of Bengal

  • Talks with Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the Muslim League

  • Introduction of Governors' Rule

Answer

The C. R. formula was a proposal made by C. Rajagopalachari in 1944 for a settlement of the Indian independence movement. The proposal called for a united India, with the Muslim-majority provinces of Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan and Bengal being given autonomous status within the Indian Union. The formula was rejected by the Muslim League, which demanded a separate Muslim state of Pakistan.
