Pope Callixtus III, whose real name was Alfonso Borgia, began his pontificate in 1455. He was the first of three Borgia popes, and is remembered for his role in ending the Western Schism. He also oversaw the beginning of the Reconquista, the reconquest of Spain from the Muslims.
