Cardinal Mazarin was born on July 14, 1602. He was an Italian-born French cardinal and statesman who served as the chief minister of France from 1642 to 1661 during the minority of Louis XIV. Mazarin played a key role in the Fronde, a series of civil wars in France from 1648 to 1653.
