Chaim Weizmann was a biochemist before becoming a politician. He was born in 1874 in Motol, Russia, and studied chemistry at the University of Berlin. In 1901, he moved to England and worked at the University of Manchester. In 1910, he discovered how to produce acetone from starch, which was a key ingredient in the production of munitions during World War I.
