Charles Haughey was a member of the Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament, from 1957 to 1997. He represented the Dublin North-East constituency for most of his time in parliament, from 1961 to 1992. He was also Taoiseach, the head of government, of Ireland on four occasions.
