Chester William Nimitz attended the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated in 1905, and went on to serve in the United States Navy for over 40 years. During his time in the Navy, Nimitz held a variety of positions, including commander of the United States Pacific Fleet during World War II. He is widely considered to be one of the most successful naval commanders in history.
