The Thirty Years' War was a conflict that lasted from 1618 to 1648 and was fought between the Protestant and Catholic states of Europe. Denmark initially entered the war on the Protestant side in 1625, but was defeated by the forces of the Holy Roman Empire and the Catholic League in 1629. As a result of the war, Denmark lost some of its territories, including the Duchy of Holstein.
