Christian VIII reigned over Denmark from 1839 until his death in 1848. He was a member of the House of Oldenburg and was the son of Frederick VI. During his reign, Denmark experienced a period of political and economic change. In 1848, a revolution broke out in Denmark and Christian VIII was forced to abdicate. He was succeeded by his son, Frederick VII.
