Christian VIII was the eighth King of Denmark, reigning from 1839 until his death in 1848. He was the second son of King Frederick VI and Queen Marie Sophie Frederikke, and succeeded his brother, King Christian VII, to the throne. Christian VIII was a popular king, and his reign saw a number of reforms, including the abolition of serfdom and the introduction of a new constitution.
