Before joining the Securities and Exchange Commission, Christopher Cox was a private attorney, an economics teacher, and an entrepreneur. He practiced law in the areas of securities law and corporate finance, and he taught economics at Claremont McKenna College. He also co-founded two companies: a financial consulting firm and a technology company.
