Chuck Yeager's career as a test pilot began during World War II. He served in the United States Army Air Forces, and flew combat missions in Europe. After the war, he became a test pilot for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), and later the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
