Geoff Hurst made his first-class cricket appearance for Essex in 1962. He played in two matches, scoring 28 runs in the first and 17 runs in the second. He did not take any wickets. Hurst was a talented cricketer, but he decided to focus on his football career. He went on to become one of the most successful footballers in English history, winning the World Cup in 1966.
