Claude Niépce is less known than his brother Joseph Nicephore Niepce because Joseph was the one who invented photography. Joseph Niepce created the first permanent photograph in 1826 by using a camera obscura and a bitumen-coated pewter plate. Claude Niépce was also an inventor, but he is not as well-known as his brother because he did not invent photography.
