Pope Clement VII was Giulio de' Medici, a member of the powerful Medici family of Florence, Italy. He was born in 1475 and became a cardinal in 1513. He was elected pope in 1523 and ruled until his death in 1534. He is best known for his role in the Sack of Rome in 1527.
