Clyde Tombaugh was born in 1906, he discovered Pluto in 1930 at the age of 24 while working at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. Tombaugh used a blink comparator, a device that rapidly alternated between two photographic plates taken at different times, to detect Pluto's movement against the background stars.
