Answer
Distinguished Service Order (DSO) is a military decoration awarded to officers of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries for meritorious or distinguished service during wartime, usually in actual combat. It ranks just below the Victoria Cross and above the Military Cross. The DSO was instituted in 1886 by Queen Victoria and has been awarded in various conflicts since then, including the two World Wars and the Korean War.
