Jerusalem fell to the Crusaders on July 15, 1099, after a siege lasting nearly five weeks. Godfrey of Bouillon, a prominent leader of the First Crusade, played a crucial role in the siege. He commanded one of the attacking forces and was among the first to enter the city.
