Örnsköldsvik is the birthplace of Daniel Sedin, a Swedish former professional ice hockey player. He played his entire NHL career with the Vancouver Canucks, where he was an alternate captain. Sedin won the Art Ross Trophy in 2011 as the NHL's leading scorer and was named to the NHL First All-Star Team three times.
