Mervyn King is an English economist and former Governor of the Bank of England. He was born in Nottingham, England in 1943 and studied economics at the University of Cambridge. King has held a number of senior positions in the British government, including Chief Economic Adviser to the Treasury and Permanent Secretary to the Treasury.
