Dietrich Bonhoeffer was executed by hanging in 1945. He was a Lutheran pastor and theologian who was involved in the German resistance movement against Adolf Hitler. Bonhoeffer was arrested by the Gestapo in 1943 and was imprisoned in several concentration camps. He was executed on April 9, 1945, just days before the end of World War II.
