Aside from his work as a record producer, King was also a singer. He had a number of hits in the 1950s and 1960s, including "The Thrill Is Gone", "Sweet Sixteen", and "Don't Answer the Door". King's music was often blues-based, but he also experimented with other genres, such as jazz and rock and roll. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
