Todd Young served as a US representative for Indiana's 9th district before becoming a senator. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2010 and served until 2017. During his time in the House, he was a member of the House Committee on Armed Services and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. In 2016, Young ran for the United States Senate and defeated Democrat Evan Bayh.
