Richard Leakey was a paleoanthropologist and conservationist who is credited with discovering the remains of several early human ancestors. He also founded the Turkana Basin Institute, which is dedicated to studying human evolution and the environment of the Turkana Basin in Kenya. Leakey was also a strong advocate for conservation and was instrumental in the creation of several national parks and reserves in Kenya.
