Douglas Bader was born in 1910. He was a British fighter pilot who lost both his legs in a flying accident in 1931. Despite his disability, he returned to flying and became one of the most successful fighter pilots of the Second World War. He shot down 22 enemy aircraft and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Distinguished Service Order.
