The Dungan Revolt, also known as the Hui Muslim Rebellion, was a major uprising by the Hui people, a Muslim minority group in China. It took place between 1862 and 1877, mainly in the northwestern provinces of Shaanxi and Gansu. Led by Zuo Zongtang, the Qing government eventually succeeded in suppressing the rebellion with the assistance of Song Qing, a prominent military commander.
