Edward Sapir taught at Yale University towards the end of his life. He was a professor of anthropology and linguistics there from 1925 to 1939. During his time at Yale, Sapir conducted research on the Native American languages of North America and published several influential works on linguistics, including Language: An Introduction to the Study of Speech (1921) and The Psychology of Language (1933).
