Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset was executed on 22 January 1552 after being convicted of treason against the regency government of Queen Mary I. Seymour was accused of conspiring to marry Lady Jane Grey to the Dauphin of France and overthrow Mary, and of having made improper advances to the young Queen. He was beheaded at Tower Hill in London.
