He is best known for his work in organic chemistry, particularly for the development of the Negishi coupling reaction, which is used to form carbon-carbon bonds. Negishi shared the 2010 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Richard F. Heck and Akira Suzuki for their work on palladium-catalyzed cross couplings in organic synthesis.
