Emilia Plater was raised in Līksna near Daugavpils in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Līksna is located in what is now Latvia, and at the time was part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Emilia Plater was a Polish noblewoman who fought in the Napoleonic Wars. She was one of the first women to lead an army in combat, and she is considered a national hero in Poland.
