The Göktürks were a nomadic Turkic people who ruled an empire in Central Asia from the 6th to 8th centuries. By the end of Emperor Wen's reign, the Göktürks had split into eastern and western kaganate. The eastern kaganate was based in Mongolia and the western kaganate was based in Central Asia. The Göktürks were eventually conquered by the Chinese in the 8th century.
