Emperor Wen of Sui, personal name Yang Jian, was the founder of the Chinese Sui dynasty. He ascended the throne in 581 after the fall of the Northern Zhou dynasty and ruled for 24 years until his death in 604. During his reign, he oversaw the reunification of China and the construction of the Grand Canal.
