Emperor Wen of Sui, the founder and first emperor of the Sui dynasty of China, died in 604 AD. He was succeeded by his son, Emperor Yang of Sui. Emperor Wen was a successful ruler who oversaw the reunification of China after the fall of the Western Jin dynasty. He was also responsible for the construction of the Grand Canal, which was a major feat of engineering.
