In 1982, Pakistani military dictator Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, ordered the arrest of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who was the first elected Prime Minister of Pakistan. On 4 April 1979, a court presided over by Chief Justice Anwarul Haq found Bhutto guilty and sentenced him to death. His death sentence was upheld by the Pakistan Supreme Court and on 4 April 1979, he was executed in Rawalpindi by hanging.
