Answer
Haeckel was a German zoologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor, and artist who described and named thousands of new species, coined many terms in biology, and introduced the scientific name for humans, Homo sapiens. Haeckel was a leading figure in the scientific community of the late 19th century, and a strong proponent of Darwin's theory of evolution, and the idea of "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny".
