Victor Hugo was a French poet, novelist, and playwright of the Romantic era. He is best known for his novels Les Misérables and Notre-Dame de Paris. He was a contemporary of Vidocq, a French criminal turned police officer. Hugo and Vidocq were both born in 1789 and died in 1885.
