Croce served in the Senate of the Kingdom of Italy as a member. He was appointed to the Senate in 1910 and served until 1928, when he resigned in protest against the Fascist regime. During his time in the Senate, Croce was a vocal critic of Fascism and was known for his outspoken defense of democracy and freedom. He also served as the Minister of Education from 1920 to 1921.
