Adam Johann von Krusenstern (1770–1846) was a Russian admiral and explorer, the first European to sail around the world from east to west. In 1803–1806 he led the first Russian circumnavigation of the world, on the merchant ship Nadezhda (Russian for "Hope"). The voyage was sponsored by the Russian Imperial Academy of Sciences and the Russian Admiralty.
