Fath-Ali Shah Qajar was the first Qajar ruler of Persia. During his reign, the country was involved in the Russo-Persian Wars. The first war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Gulistan in 1813, which ceded much of northern Iran to Russia. The second war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Turkmenchay in 1828, which ceded more territory to Russia.
