Félix Houphouët-Boigny was born on 18 October 1905 in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast. He was a politician and statesman who served as the first president of the Ivory Coast from 1960 to 1993. Houphouët-Boigny was a leading figure in the anti-colonial movement in French West Africa and was a founding member of the African Democratic Rally (RDA).
