The Cadaver Synod was a trial in 897 that led to the deposition of Pope Formosus. The synod was convened by Pope Stephen VI, who had been elected to replace Formosus. The trial was held in St. Peter's Basilica, and Formosus' body was exhumed and placed on trial.
