François Englert was born on 6 November 1932 in Etterbeek, Belgium. He is a Belgian theoretical physicist who shared the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physics with Peter Higgs for Theoretical discovery of the Higgs boson. Englert and Higgs proposed the Higgs mechanism in 1964, which explains how particles acquire mass. The Higgs boson was experimentally discovered at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012.
