Fred Hampton was born on August 30, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. He was an African-American activist and revolutionary who was a leading figure in the Black Panther Party. He was known for his work organizing poor and working-class African-Americans, and for his advocacy of armed self-defense. Hampton was assassinated by Chicago police officers in 1969.
